BELGIUM TOUR

Belgium tour - June 2018

We stayed in the attractive town of Kortrijk for five nights and  enjoyed visiting many places of interest within the area.

Our day visit to the beautiful town of Bruges was very successful. The architecture, canals and restaurants made the day exciting and worthwhile.

Our trip to Ostend proved to be very pleasant. The weather was hot and sunny and everyone made the most of the shops, beach and marina.

We also visited the Welsh memorial at Langemark to pay our respects to all those Welsh men and women who gave so much during the Great War. We said prayers, laid poppy wreathes and sang in their honour. It was a calm, beautiful place where we could reflect and remember all those lost in conflict. The dramatic dragon looked down on us and made us feel proud to be Welsh, honouring the people who sacrificed all.

Once again, as in 2014, we visited the town of Ypres where we sang as part of the nightly Last Post service held at the Menin Gate. This event was incredibly moving and attended by people of all nationalities. It was also very poignant because a large group of very young, regular army trainees were also taking part. We couldn't help wondering what would become of them and hoped that they had a long, happy future that was denied to so many.

In conclusion, we enjoyed a brilliant tour consisting of sightseeing, seaside visits and serious moments that were sad and thought provoking. A time to share laughter, fun and deep emotions with like minded people who enjoy making music together.
