Spring 2022
The choir was pleased to return to the downstairs schoolroom at Ebenezer Baptist Church. This was our usual practice room before the covid pandemic affected the whole country. We also agreed to alter the times of practices from 6.00-8.00pm.
On 21st June, the choir was invited to sing at the funeral of Robert Hucker, the husband of Irene Hucker who has been a choir member for many years. The funeral took place at St. Paul’s Church and many attendees praised the choir for singing so well. It was an honour for the choir to be part of the service as Rob was a valued supporter at many events and will be missed.

Hundred Bundred Concert - Saturday 23rd July
The choir was delighted to perform in a joint concert with Abertillery Orpheus Male Voice Choir at The Met. The concert was to commemorate the work and commitment of Tom Bundred who was the conductor and founder of both choirs.
Mr Bundred had been described as a musical genius and he used his knowledge and talent to create successful and highly regarded choirs.
The audience was very supportive and it was pleasing to see special guests, Iola Ffrancon Davies and Huw Ffrancon Davies, grandchildren of Tom Bundred.
Both choirs sang a varied selection of pieces from their repertoires and Penny Hughes, our talented accompanist, played two solo pieces.
The Ladies Choir would like to thank the Male Voice Choir for including us in this celebration of Tom Bundred. We appreciate the research and hard work that made the concert a successful, pleasant evening.

AUTUMN 2022
Friday 21st October 2022
The choir visited The National Botanic Garden of Wales to sing in the Great Glass House which is an important feature of the gardens.
We sang a wide range of songs which other visitors enjoyed.
It was very special to perform further afield once again, as the Covid pandemic has curtailed our plans over the last few years.
Although it was a very wet day, the weather brightened enough for choristers to walk around the gardens and enjoy the beautiful displays and landscape. It was wonderful to enjoy each other’s company and to relax in such lovely surroundings. It is certainly a venue that we could visit again, possibly during the spring or summer when the gardens would be in full bloom.
A very successful visit which was enjoyed by all.

Thursday 1st December 2022
The choir attended ‘The Doll’s House’ for our Christmas Dinner. There was a good choice of items on the menu and the food was well made and plentiful.
This event was particularly poignant because it was our first social get together since the onset of the covid pandemic. It was very pleasing to relax and enjoy the company of other choristers, after such a long time. We are grateful to Sian Jones for organising this event and we look forward to similar celebrations, in the future.

Sunday 4th December 2022
The choir attended an evening Christmas service at Blaenau Gwent Baptist Church. The minister, Jonathan Foreman gave us a very warm welcome and the congregation sang the communal carols with joy and enthusiasm. It was a lovely way to start Christmas celebrations. We performed a selection of seasonal pieces and the audience showed great appreciation.
Afterwards, the church kindly provided refreshments of tea and mince pies. It was a very enjoyable event and we were pleased to attend a church that is so supportive and central to the community.

Monday 12th December 2022
The choir was very pleased to attend Cwrt Mytton Care Home in Abertillery. The Christmas decorations at the entrance, and inside the building, created a very festive atmosphere which added to the occasion.
The residents were joined by several of their family members and the staff created a cosy area in the main lounge.
We performed a concert consisting of festive pieces interspersed with well loved carols and the audience joined in with communal singing which was uplifting for us all. The residents were very appreciative and it was a pleasure to perform a concert in such a caring atmosphere.
Afterwards, we enjoyed refreshments of tea and mince pies which was very welcome on such a cold winter’s night.

Sunday 18th December 2022
We attended the Annual Community Carol Concert which took place in The Met, this year. Our usual venue of St Michael’s was unavailable due to on going repairs to the building.
However, this lovely theatre proved to be a successful venue and was full to capacity.
Hannah Webley was a very able compère for the evening and she introduced other participants of the concert. The audience was also entertained by Abertillery Town Band, Abertillery Youth Drama and Musical Society, Ebbw Fach Choir and Abertillery Male Voice Orpheus Choir.
The atmosphere was very upbeat and the audience was extremely receptive. They seemed to enjoy all of the music performed throughout the concert and certainly joined in with the communal carols with great enthusiasm. It was a lovely evening and was a wonderful way to celebrate the coming of Christmas.
The Stroke Association was this year’s charity to benefit from Funds raised at this event.
